Good day,
I got certified last year, and it wasn't my first try, to be honest. But what I have learned is that you need to set the objective that you've got this by considering the following, and assuming that you already submitted your application and schedule a date (i.e.4 months, even tough you can change it later in case you need more time or your exam statistics need improvement)
Here are my suggestions:
- as you may already know, this is not an easy test, so put the mindset that you need to do this right to pass it on the 1st try.
- Let me said that there's no magic formula to pass the PMP Exam, there are a LOT of (and very good) PMP resources out there, and I couldn't say that "one size (course, trainer, etc.) fits all" It's what you feel more comfortable.
- You have the option to review the content, quality and reputation from each instructor/company.
- Once have you choose it, attach to it, every course has the method or training plan or how to best use it, specially in terms of time.
- Keep in mind that you MUST be attached to that objective of studying, like a discipline, it could be 1.5 or 2hrs by day, I'd recommend you early morning (i.e.: 5 am), even weekends, so make commitments to you and your career even though sharing your objective with your family/friends, so they are aware of what your goal is.
- The time you dedicate it will shorten the overall schedule and feel that commitment of doing it every day.
- Once you finished reading the training material(s), I encourage you to measure your knowledge, by acquiring PREP exams, those will give you where you lack of and get back to that chapter.
- Once you got results above average, you will feel more confident and ready for the exam.
This is an overall overview, I'm not mentioning any material or author, it's up to you to decide which one.
Happy to respond any questions, remember you've got this.... Thanks!
