None of us here at the PM PrepCast can speak for PMI. Your questions is best suited for them. My advice is "If you never ask, the answer is always "no," so I would encourage you to contact PMI.

However, I will state that they are not interested in the titile of "Project Manager" per se on the application. It's more of what you did with respect to project management as opposed to the the corporate title of "Project Manager."

I'm a Solution Manager (Product Manager) which is a pre-sales job. As a Solution/Product Manager I work on pre-sales project management.
