I don't have a bachelor degree so I need 5 years (60) months and 7500 hours of experience. I've been doing PM work since Feb 2014 but only want to list my major projects. I have the 5 years and the 7500 hours but does it have to
be consecutive? Can there be gaps in time between projects?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Debbie,

Gaps are not a problem, as long as your experience is not over 8 years ago. (Which in your case seems OK with 2014).

I took my CAPM in 2014 and have been tracking experience since then. 7500 hours is a lot!

Don't I know it... I had to submit 7,500 hours as well when I took the exam.

I have another question. All of my projects are very similar. Will PMP reject my app if i have 5 projects with very similar objectives and management as long as I lead and directed each project?
If I submit one of my project experience summaries would you review and critique?

Thanks for all the help.

Hard to say. I don't know how exactly PMI defines the switch from 'projects' to 'operations'. Are 5 similar projects still OK or do they say that if you had 3 similar projects in a row then it's operations? We don't know and the interpretation may be up to the reviewer.

Can you share the descriptions for two of your projects here? (Remember, this is a PUBLIC forum, so everyone in the world can see what you post. Don't post anything sensitive!)

Sample project titles:

1. improve cycle time from qualifying customers to revenue recognition project
2. develop negotiation standards focused on defending value and reducing risk
3. planning and implementation of new process for facilitating/leading negotiations

any thoughts on rewording the project titles to sound more like PMI"ism" ?

I think that the titles are fine and you should not change them from what they actually were. Where you need to put in a lot of effort is into the project descriptions that explain your experience and what you were responsible for.

Have you already reviewed our article on how to fill in the application? Here is a direct link to the experience hours section: www.project-management-prepcast.com/how-...-the-pmp-application (there are even some good examples in the next section of the article).

That's where you show PMI what you did in all 5 domains.
