Hi Everyone -

These articles about getting into the PMI Mindset are so important to successfully passing any certification exam from PMI but especially the PMP Exam. I use an analogy with my PMP students that they will never forget and it is very straightforward. When I look out my office window in (mostly) sunny Southern California, the sky is blue. so I refer to this as 'Blue Sky'. For your PMP mindset this represents what you do on your projects in 'real life'. However, these PMP Mindset podcasts from Cornelius indicate that even though some things you do in real life are not what you would do when studying 'for the exam' is what I refer to as 'Green Sky'. This is the mindset you need to acquire when studying for the PMP Exam. Here are some examples.

1) In Green Sky, you always perform a 'make or buy analysis while in Blue Sky you may not do this for every project.

2) In Green Sky, you always use a 'Work Authorization System' before you perform any project work while in Blue Sky you may not do this for every project. (Note: In my 25-year project management career I never used a 'Work Authorization System'.

3) In Green Sky, you always create a Project charter that is signed by the project sponsor and the project manager while in Blue Sky you may use a Business Case, Statement of Work or contract as the starting document on your project

For many more examples of how to get into the 'Green Sky' mindset, check out the following articles from Cornelius.
