TOPIC: Additional PMP material that don't break the bank?

Hey folks! I'm happy to share that I'm on a journey to getting that PMP certificate. The PrepCast course has been suggested to me by many, so I'm thinking of taking that up. On top of that, I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on any PMP materials (preferably one that don't cost an arm or a leg).

Would love to know what personally helped you gear up for the exam!

The PrepCast course is a solid choice, and there are definitely packages that cater to different needs that can help.

You should seriously consider investing in an exam simulator as well. Another good resource I used was Head First PMP that's a brick of a book but well written and quite humorous in its presentation as well. I do not know if it's available for the current exam, however, so be sure to research that before you pull the trigger on buying it.

You will want to be familiar with all of material that's mentioned in the Exam Content Outline from PMI. I'm not saying they need to be in your personal library, but you do need to have some familiarity with them.

As Harry mentioned, I strongly recommend using a high-quality exam simulator. In this regard, the PrepCast Simulator is highly recommended. I used it myself, and in my experience, it remains the best one on the market.

So, if you’re planning to purchase the PM PrepCast course, you might want to consider getting the Plus or even the Elite Package. Yes, it’s an investment, but especially with the Elite Package, you get everything you need: the course, the simulator, additional study materials, and a detailed, structured study plan to guide you through your entire preparation.

Essentially, apart from the PMI books—such as the PMBOK Guide, the Agile Practice Guide, and other recommended references—you won’t need any additional materials. That is, unless you have specific preferences, like studying with flashcards. But with the Elite Package, you’re fully equipped and covered.

Someone else mentioned that occasional promotions allow you to save at least a few dollars. These promotions usually run every month. This month, for example, the Exam Simulator Deluxe is available with a 10% discount. I don’t know which promotion will be available next month, so maybe you could wait a few more days. If you’re lucky, one of the complete packages might be discounted next month.

The PM Prepcast was a pretty cheap option for me, especially for what was included in it. However, I understand maybe not everyone has $200-$300 to pay for a prep course.

PMP for Dummies will probably be a good option. Cornelius also offers some free resources if you follow his pages. You can also join LinkedIn groups and watch YouTube videos for free.

As with most things, you can get all the information for free, if you wish. However, you can't guarantee that everything you watch will be useful or well organized enough to ensure proper studying material like you can in the PrepCast.
