Does the project charter contain the current project status? If we look to the project charter, will we be able to know where the project stands?

No, the project charter is not a document that is updated throughout the project.

The only reason a project charter would change is (but not limited to) if there is a change of key stakeholders, sponsors or organization strategic objectives.

Update to the project charter is not an output. You will find the status of the project in your status report or even work performance information.
