When can a Project Management Institute (PMI)® Audit happen?
We received the following question from one of our Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam students:
Dear PrepCast Support team:
I have received an email from Project Management Institute (PMI)® where they are asking me to deposit the PMI® credential examination fee. I have one question here, after depositing the fee is there any chance to face the audit or my application already through from that checks?
Thanks, Nitin
My answer was as follows:
Nitin,
Your PMP® Application (and later on your PMP Status) can be audited by PMI at any time. So if PMI wishes then they can audit you 1 day after you pay, 1 month after pass your exam, 1 year after you pass your exam or never...
So the answer is: "It depends". As a PMP Aspirant and also once you receive your PMP credential you can "always" be audited. However, chances of being audited are relatively low once you pass the exam.
My tip: Follow the code of ethics, be truthful and you have nothing to fear at all. An audit is "just" a nuisance and should not be feared.
