Student Profile: Ian Slade, PMP

Hi there. My name is Ian Slade. I am a nurse by trade and I have been in the Healthcare Informatics arena for a decade now. Recently I started my own Healthcare IT consulting company. We help hospitals implement complex systems in a timely fashion.

IT implementation solutions is one of our core competencies. The Project Management Institute has created a very helpful framework for running projects across multiple industries. The discipline of going through the PMP certification process has helped me become a better resource to my clients.

Learning the new 'lingo' took a while to get used to, but it has been helpful when communicating with other project managers who prescribe to PMP terminologies.

I actually won a PM PrepCast raffle prize during the PMI Orange county dinner! That's where I got to learn about it.

What is missing from The PM PrepCast? I think more industry specific examples would help. I would love to partner with someone on your team to develop that for our industry.

My #1 recommendation for those studying for the exam: Focus on understanding the concepts instead of rote memorization. At the end of the day, if you don't understand it, you can't use it.
