How important do I think it is for new students to read the official PMP Handbook from PMI? If you referring to the PMBOK, I think it is worth it to skim once through it. I acknowledge it might not be the most valuable resource to approach your PMP certification. However, as a global standard in project management, it is crucial.

I recommend other students do in the last week before the exam is to practice some mock exams with more situational questions. The PrepCast is the typical example here. Do as much as you can to get exposed to more realistic scenarios and how to handle each,  Stop studying 24 hours at least before the exam. As the exam is quite long and you need to be in a good mental state.
